It is a long weekend here which means many families will be packing into the car to do a bit of traveling. This is a great time to mention the benefits of having remote access to your computer. Whether you are heading to a different city, state, province, country or even continent, it is nice to be able to easily connect back to your home or office computer. The comfort of knowing your email and files are accessible to you no matter where you are is immeasurable.
The best part is that you can securely remotely access your PC from virtually any computer in the world so there is no need to drag around your laptop (and no risk of losing it either).

Administrators can easily enable I’m InTouch’s Remote Wake-Up feature from their I’m InTouch Premium web account. All you need to do is:
- Login to your I’m InTouch Premium Administrator web account from https://locator.01com.com. You do not need login from the computer you are providing remote access to.
- The List of Computers screen will be displayed. Place checkmarks next to the computers whose Remote Wake-Up properties you would like to configure and then click the User settings/Activate link.
- The next screen displayed is the User Settings page. Make sure that each computer has checkmarks in the Remote Wake-Up Enabled box next to its name. We also recommend checking the Remote Wake-Up Proxy box so that any computer can act as the proxy to wake up the other computers on your network. Remember, at least one computer must have Wake-Up Proxy enabled and be turned on in order for other computers to remotely powered on.

The TV show Get Connected featured the I’m InTouch remote access software in late 2007. The show is a bit old but it does provide an excellent demonstration of the software in action. The segment is just over 3 minutes long which is proof that taking PC remote control using I’m InTouch is really, really fast. You can view the video here.

One of the few limitations of remote access solutions like I’m InTouch is that in order to remotely take PC remote control, you need to be able to connect to the Internet. While this is less and less of a problem with the spread of Wi-Fi networks, there can still be times when you are on the road and cannot get a connection (with Summer here, camping and the cottage come to mind immediately). This is where 3G wireless Internet comes in handy.
01 Communique is now offering 3G (actually 3.5G to be precise) wireless Internet data plans along with I’m InTouch starting at a special price of $49.95. This exclusive offer includes a FREE I’m InTouch SecureKEY and FREE 3.5G mobile Internet stick. It’s the perfect way to stay InTouch when you are traveling for business or pleasure this summer no matter where you are.
