While more and more organizations are now providing their employees with the ability to work from home using remote access technologies, there are still many businesses who are hesitant to provide employees with remote access. This article will examine some of the common reasons why companies don’ t provide employees with PC remote access and how I’m InTouch overcomes them.
Perceived High Costs
For many businesses, especially small to medium-sized ones, there are concerns that providing employees with remote access is going to be very costly. This is not without warrant as many other remote access solutions, can be quite costly. Especially something like a VPN where you have to start purchasing additional hardware and maybe even hiring somebody to set it up for you as well.
With I’m InTouch, everything is covered for one low monthly or annual fee of about $10 a month or $100 a year per PC. All your support is included as well as product updates. Anybody can set the solution up in minutes and there is no need for expensive additional hardware.
Security Concerns
A business’ data is its lifeblood. Company documents, employee records, customer information, and all other private data must stay confidential at all costs. This is why some organizations are so hesitant to provide employees with access to such information outside the office. It’s also why many businesses forbid the use of laptops since a lost or stolen laptop could mean sensitive information falling into the wrong hands.
I’m InTouch includes incredible security features that protect company information from unauthorized users. First, I’m InTouch includes multiple passwords to protect workstations against unauthorized access and the passwords are never stored on any outside servers. All remote access data is encrypted using 128-bit SSL to ensure no can snoop in on your remote session. Users can also choose to add the SecureKEY that acts as a physical authentication key to prevent any unauthorized remote access. If the SecureKEY is not present, no remote access is possible - even if someone knows your login information.

While there has been a lot of focus on how large organizations should be preparing for a possible swine flu/H1N1 pandemic, there has not much attention regarding the steps small to medium-sized business (SMBs) should be taking. It is interesting since one could make the argument that SMBs can least afford to not have their employees in the office. While larger organizations may have some redundancy when it comes to personnel, this might not be the case at a smaller organization. So how can a SMB maintain business producitvity when employees can not make it to the office?
One cost effective and simple answer is to deploy a remote access solution like I’m InTouch Premium on all your employees workstations ahead of time. In the event of a disaster that keeps them from making it to the office, your employees can remotely take control of their workstations and be just as productive as if they were physically in the office. Everything they would normally use their computers for can be accomplished from their PC at home.
For the administrator, I’m InTouch Premium allows complete management of all computers with the software installed from a central admin web page. Administrators can add and remove users, purchase licenses, access a computer on the network with a single click, and more.

While remote access software is most commonly thought of as a business solution to allow employees to work from outside the office, it also has many applications for home use as well. For the majority of people, their home PC is now an integral part of their lives from keeping track of finances and budgets, contact information, email and schedules, to storing music, videos and pictures. Being able to have instant access to all this information from anywhere can be very beneficial and a remote access solution like I’m InTouch is an easy way to accomplish this.
Even as mobile phones have become computers and laptops as lightweight as mobile phones, it is much safer to keep all your information securely in one central location like a desktop PC. Your digital data is too valuable and important to leave on a device that can be easily lost or stolen. Imagine losing your cell phone and losing all your contact information with it. Or losing a laptop and having your financial information fall into the wrong hands.
With I’m InTouch remote access, anytime you need something from your home PC, just login from any web browser on any computer or device for fast access from anywhere in the world.

Anthony Wensley, a University business professor, discusses how he uses I’m InTouch remote access to work from anywhere.
“I am a business professor who constantly has to keep in touch with my home network. I often need to review and revise material that is on my home network either when I am at work or, more importantly, when I am traveling. I’m InTouch offers me an interface that is easy to work with to access my many files and slides remotely. It allows me to relax since I know that my files will always be accessible wherever I am. Previously I had to make sure I always had critical files physically with me - always a burden! I also often encountered a need for files that I had not anticipated!”
